Art Piece by Poppy Luna
Inspired by contrasting themes of isolation and connection, this piece focuses on the feelings of security found through chosen and given family. The faces on the figures are inspired bu the masks my grandma found growing up in Mexico under the dirt and sand that would run off after the rain by her house. I really tried to capture the lost sense that was in the faces. Also, the artwork exemplifies the sensation of community found in my Mexican heritage. I used the mixed mediums of gouache and acrylic paint to create a varied texture.
Additionally, the background is inspired by heartstrings, and the tangible heart of my dead ancestors. At the same time it represents the opportunity (financial, displayed in the green color palette) of rebirth, and the chance to craft something new out of myself while continuing to embrace tradition and origins.
