Fall Comes Near

by Sylvie Reiss

The brown color of the leaves never changed,

Neither did the weather,

And the fall feeling could last forever.

The start of a new school year,

The same things appear;

First day nerves,

Brand new concerns.

The blistering heat,

August leaves,

Now stuck at a sweet seventy degrees.

Sound of Alex G,

Candle debris

Organic candy that settles by the street.

Reservoir walks

To the big candy blocks.

Elementary school kids travel in the flocks.

Every year, fall comes near.

The same things appear,

Not just the new school year,

But the simple fear that I will someday leave here.
